About Phuket, Thailand
The world famous island of Phuket, is the largest island in Thailand. It is approximately the size of Singapore and is well connected to the mainland Thailand by a bridge.
Phuket was hit by the disastrous 2004 tsunami, but has since recovered. Most of the damaged and most undamaged resorts are back in business, there are little traces left of the natural disaster other than at remote beaches. It now boast tsunami-detection buoys which will given warning signals in case the misfortune strike again. Tourism to Phuket has almost fully recovered.
The most popular destination in Phuket would arguably be Patong Beach, largely due to its wide and long stretch of beach. Most of the nightlife and cheap shopping can be found there. There are several other beachs which are less popular and are loved by people who seek a more relaxed and quiet environment. With its numerous beaches, Phuket is a haven for snorkellers and scuba divers.
While at Phuket, do remember to check out the Two Heroines Monument, as well as the Thalang National Museum. There is also the View Point, located between Nai Han and Kata beaches, where you can view the scenic Kata Noi, Kata and Karon beaches, and Ko Pu Island.
You must taste the locally available Pad Kanaa Moo Grob, which is a dish with cripsy pork and greens. Other popular dishes include noodles, rice with chicken and shrimps with dried chilli.
