Penang is one of Southeast Asia's finest destinations, known for its beaches and exotic sights. It is at the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
Besides the beautiful beaches, do visit the Penang Hill, which offers excellant view of Geogetown and Penang Bridge. The Penang Botanic Garden, also known as Waterfall Gardens is another place for you to be with mother nature. One of the longest bridge in the world, the Penang Bridge, connects the island to the mainland.
There are also the Pulau Jerejak Resort, Snake Temple and War Museum which you should not miss.
Food is a must-try when you hit Penang. For those who are into spicy food, the famous Penang Laksa (or Assam Laksa) is slightly on the sour side (due to tamarind) will test your tastebuds!
Other dishes includes Penang Nasi Kandar, Hokkien Mee, Lor Mee and Satay. You should not miss the Teh Tarik too, which is a tea-with-milk drink. But the fun is watching the vendor prepare the drink.
More and more shopping complexes and malls are coming up in Penang. Queensbay Mall is the largest in Penang, and you also have Prangin Mall and outdoor flea-market style markets at Pasar Malam (night market) along Batu Ferringhi.
Due to its position as a tourist spot, Penang hotels are generally more expensive then hotels in alot of other places. You can probably get a fairly decent Penang hotel for around MYR110 or you can opt to go upmarket Penang hotel at about MYR1,300.
