About Kuching, Malaysia
Kuching is the most populous city in the state of Sarawak, and part of East Malaysia.
It is known as a haven for tourists, as it is one of the main tourist destinations in Sarawak.
Have a visit to Tua Pek Kong Temple which is at Jalan Padungan (east end of Main Bazaar). The temple is also just opposite the Chinese Museum. You may be interested in the Sultan Iskandar Planetarium, which is located at the Kuching Civic Centre complex.
There are also several mosque like the Masjid Jamek and Kuching City Mosque. Please remember to observe the rules of visit when you head towards the temples or mosques.
One of the most popular meeting places in Kuching would be the Kuching Waterfront. No visit to Kuching is completed without taking a walk along the waterfront.
For souvenirs and handicrafts, head down to the Main Bazaar. There are quite a number of museusm which you could visit too, including the Sarawak Museum, Chinese History Museum, Sarawak Timber Museum and so on.
There are of course modern shopping malls in Kuching. Head down to The Spring or Sarawak Plaza for your modern shopping fix.
When it comes to food, you must not miss "Kolo Mee" (or Kolo noodles). It is a very tasty bowl of noodle with sliced pork, chicken cutlets or minced meat. It is absolutely delicious and you should not miss it. You can also try out the Sarawak Laksa, the Sarawak version of the famous dish cooked differently in Penang or Singapore.
Staying at a Kuching hotel can be quite pricey, you can find hotel rate starting from about MYR180. Higher class hotels in Kuching may charge as high as MYR600.
