Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is the largest city in the country. It is also the most populous city in South East Asia.
The city is divided into Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta and North Jakarta. If you are a first time visitor to Jakarta, be forewarned that going around may be tough due to poor signage and street names. Do not be surprised to find the same street name in different parts of the city.
Jakarta is a huge city, there are many things to do, places to visit and lots of dishes to try. There are lots of museums, markets and religious places. There are also many shopping malls which offers upmarket products. Have a trip to Museum Nasional, Museum Wayang, Museum ABRI, Museum Bahari and Museum Bank Mandiri. For shopping, head down to Grand Indonesia, Plaza Senayan, Senayan City and Mal Kelapa Gading. If you are hunting for antiques, head down to Jalan Surabaya in Central Jakarta where you can find many antiques up from grabs.
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of eating places in Jakarta. From local flare to excellent Chinese, Japanese, Korean and many other international foods, you will be able to find it at Jakarta. If you are a Buddhist, please be reminded that a lot of the local food are cooked with beef, so please check with the vendor before ordering and eating.
Nightlife is always buzzing in Jakarta. A popular nightlife district would be Blok M, in South Jakarta, there is also a Little Japan which has lots of Japanese restaurants, bars and karaoke joints.
Like the city, you can possibly stay at the most expensive Jakarta hotel, or you can choose a budget hotel in Jakarta. The top range hotels are around IDR3,500,00 and are about IDR336,000 for budget class ones.
