    Landmarks

    * Prom Thep Cape

    Prom Thep Cape is one of Phuket’s notable natural landmarks. It means 'God's Cape', and lies to the far south in Tambon Rawai, around 2 km / 1.5 miles from Rawai Beach. Situated with high cliffs and uninterrupted views, the Prom Thep Cape is most famous for its dramatic sunsets. Close to the cape's peak, there’s a small and interesting shrine, which features a number of wooden elephants.

    * Two Heroines Monument

    Two Heroines Monument at Tha Rua Square, Amphoe Thalang, Thalang Town stands proudly as the centrepiece to one of the island's largest roundabouts. It is a particularly significant landmark in Phuket. The monument serves as a tribute to the two sisters, who played an important part in the 18th-century Burmese War. Nearby, the Thalang National Museum on Pakhlok Road offers an insight into the monuments past and the lives of these two women.

    * Central Festival Phuket

    Central Festival Phuket lies just outside of Phuket Town. It is an air-conditioned, fully equipped shopping mall which has free underground parking. Several satellite shops make up the sum of this mall but the logical place to start bargain hunting is Central Department store itself which offers a wide array of products such as clothing, cosmetics, accessories, shoes, home furnishings, handicrafts, souvenir items and much more.

    * Jungceylon Shopping Complex

    Jungceylon Shopping Complex benefits from a superior location as it is close to Patong Beach which is Phuket's most popular and most lively area, and also the major nightlife districts of Bangla Road and Rat-U-Thit Road. It is more than just a shopping mall because it has excellent dining, entertainment and leisure facilities. The mall has been designed using Sino-Portuguese architecture and features large areas of lush green vegetation, a serene lake and a traditional Chinese Junk which helps to combine the exoticness of Phuket with a modern shopping mall.

    * Chao Fah Variety

    Also known as the new weekend market, this market recently sprung up on the outskirts of Phuket City, just off Chaofa West road opposite Wat Nakha. This is now Phuket's largest weekend market, having taken over from the now defunct Chatuchak Phuket market. There is a wide range of items on sale, including clothes, accessories, pets, home decorations and plenty of delicious food.

    * Patong Beach Road

    This is the main shopping street catering to tourists. All along the beach road south of Soi Bangla, and down a few of the small alleys, are stalls and shops selling cheap designer goods, beach wear, watches, some electrical goods and souvenir items. Quite a few stalls and shops are open during the day but the street really comes alive in the evenings

    * Wat Phra Tong

    The Wat Phra Tong temple can be found within the suburbs of Thalang and is best known for its stunning golden Buddha, which often features in local legends and tales. During the Chinese New Year, many of the island's Chinese Thais come here to pray. Whilst the temple is away from Phuket's main beaches, it is worth searching out if you have the time.

    MRT & Transport

    * Airport Bus Route

    Airport Bus Route 8411 operates daily from Phuket International Airport to Phuket downtown and from Phuket downtown to Phuket International Airport. A bus leaves at 1 to 1.30 hour intervals. The buses depart Phuket Bus Terminal to Phuket International Airport from 05:00 to 18:00 hrs., and from Phuket International Airport to Phuket Bus Terminal from 06:30 to 21:30 hrs.

    Phuket Bus Terminal is located along Phang-nga Road. From this terminal, there are regular bus services to neighbouring provinces such as Krabi, Phang-nga, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Surat Thani, Satun, Hat Yai and Trang.
