    * Cecil Street Market

    Cecil Street Market is just about 15-minute walk from Komtar, Penang’s famous landmark, via Jalan Gurdwara and a left turn into Lebuh Nanking. A late afternoon market selling dry goods like salted fish, dried vegetables, anchovies and mushrooms, fresh vegetables, seafood, chicken and pork, roasted meats, canned food, clothes and household items. It also feature a hawker centre selling a variety of Penang's most memorable dishes – duck meat koay teow th'ng, wantan mee, chee cheong fun, char koay teow, dumplings, chicken rice, nyonya cakes and laksa.

    The Chowrasta Market, built in 1890 is definitely the most popular in Penang. The word Chowrasta is Urdu for four roads, and indeed the market sits on crossroads formed by Chowrasta Street, Tamil Street, Kuala Kangsar Road and Penang Road. The front area sells a huge variety of Penang goodies like pickle nutmeg, tau sar peah, durian cakes, dodol (coconut taffy), bedak sejuk (rice powder for the face) and medicinal ointments. A choice selection of fresh meats, fish, fruits and vegetables are found inside the market, on the ground floor. Upstairs are Penang's famous second hand book dealers (last relocated from Macalister Road), clothing and shoe stores.

    * Kapitan Keling Mosque

    The Kapitan Keling Mosque is arguably the best known mosque in Penang. Situated on Jalan Kapitan Keling, formerly Pitt Street, it is the largest historic mosque in George Town. It was named after the Indian Muslim merchant, the "Kapitan Keling" (headman) Caudeer Mohudeen who built it in the early 19th century. It features a yellow facade and dome-shaped minaret reflecting Moorish Islamic influence.

    Kek Lok Si temple is one of the finest Buddhist temples in South East Asia, standing majestically on a hill in Ayer Itam.     MRT & Transport

    * KOMTAR Bus Terminal

    Komtar Bus Terminal is the hub of bus services in George Town. All the bus routes of Penang radiates from this terminal. To be exact, KOMTAR Bus Terminal is not a "terminal" proper, but rather a bus station, because buses do not actually start from here, but rather, from the Weld Quay Bus Terminal. At the Komtar Bus Terminal, you can catch buses going to the north, central, south and west parts of Penang Island, as well as some buses that go to the mainland.

    * Penang Hill Railway

    The Penang Hill Railway is a one section funicular railway which climbs Penang Hill from Air Itam near George Town. The total journey takes about ten to twenty minutes. The train may stop at other intermediate stations upon request. Construction of the railway took place around 1906 to 1923, at a cost of 1.5 million Straits dollars and it was opened to the public on October 21, 1923.
