Chengdu, located in the west of Sichuan, is well known for being the city of the pandas, and also famous for being the city of cotton-rose hibiscus.
This old city has profound historical and cultural background, featuring historic places of interest as such Wuhou Memorial Temple, Wenshu Monastery etc. For nature lovers, do not miss the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area and the Huang Long Valley.
The famous Sichuan cuisine, is a must when you visit Chengdu. The hot spicy feel when you are enjoying the food is an experience in itself. A small tip if you are not used to the spicy food, order a glass or bottle of soya bean milk or fresh milk, it will go down better than water.
Visit the Tianfu Square, which is overlooked by the famous and enormous Chaiman Mao statue. The museums you should go include Sichuan Science and Technology Museum and Sichuan University Museum. There are many temples which includes Wenshu Temple and Qingyang Temple.
Do not miss the Jinsha Excavation Site (although the admission fee is kind of steep). This site features various tools and art pieces from around three thousand years ago, you can see pottery, blades, jade items, building foundations and golden art pieces.
For the kids, there is a Happy Valley (not the place in Hong Kong), which is a great amusement park with water park and rides.
For just around RMB160, you can get a room in a Chengdu hotel for a comfortable night's rest. For those who prefer a more luxurious lifestyle, you can opt for the higher end rooms which will cost approximately RMB1,350.
